How the Redrafts Work
Every number on RookieRanks comes from public data and a formula that is written out on this page. Nothing is hand-edited and nothing is invented: a player with no data simply scores zero for that part.
The live 2026 redrafts
Each morning (about 6 AM Mountain) the site re-downloads the season's stats, scores every 2026 draft pick, and re-sorts the whole class. Slot 1 still belongs to the team that held the first pick, slot 2 to the second, and so on, so the board answers “who would each team take if the draft were held again today?”
Draft-slot prior that fades. One week or a few games is noise, so early on the original draft order still counts. Every player gets a prior from where he was picked, and it is blended with his performance:
prior = 100 × (1 − ln(pick) / ln(N + 1)) N = picks in the class w = G / (G + K) G = games each team has played score = w × performance + (1 − w) × priorK is 4 for the NFL and 12 for the NBA. So after 4 NFL games performance is half the score, after 12 it is 75%; in the NBA performance reaches half after 12 games and about 87% by the All-Star break. The current weight is printed on each board.
NFL performance score
Built on the Rookie Impact Score engine, using nflverse weekly player stats and Pro-Football-Reference snap counts. Snap share is weighted heavily:
performance = 0.55 × playing time + 0.45 × production playing time = 100 × (0.75 × snap share on his side of the ball + 0.25 × share of team games played) production = position-relative, per team game, 0–100: QB 50% pass+rush EPA · 25% pass+rush yards · 25% TDs − INTs RB 45% scrimmage yards · 25% TDs · 15% rush+rec EPA · 15% receptions WR/TE 45% rec. yards · 15% receptions · 20% TDs · 20% receiving EPA DL 40% sacks · 25% TFL · 15% tackles · 10% FF · 10% PD LB 35% tackles · 20% TFL · 20% sacks · 10% INT · 10% PD · 5% FF DB 30% INT · 30% PD · 30% tackles · 10% FF OL 0.7 × playing time (no blocking grades in public data)Each stat is turned into a z-score against every rookie season at that position since 1999 and squashed onto 0–100, so a 60 for a linebacker means the same as a 60 for a receiver. Kickers, punters and long snappers have no production model; they get playing time only (capped at 50). Picks with no regular-season snaps score 0 performance and lean entirely on the prior.
“Since Week N” compares today's board to the same formula run on stats through the previous week.
NBA performance score
Built from the official ESPN box score of every completed 2026-27 regular-season game.
performance = 0.30 × minutes + 0.35 × production + 0.20 × efficiency + 0.15 × impact minutes = 100 × min(1, minutes per team game ÷ 32) production = 100 × (Game Score per team game ÷ 16), capped 0–100 Game Score = PTS + 0.4·FGM − 0.7·FGA − 0.4·(FTA − FTM) + 0.7·OREB + 0.3·DREB + STL + 0.7·AST + 0.7·BLK − 0.4·PF − TOV efficiency = 50 + 50 × tanh((TS% − 0.56) ÷ 0.08), shrunk toward 40 until a player has ~40 FGA impact = 50 + 50 × tanh((plus-minus per 36) ÷ 10), shrunk toward 40 until ~200 minutesPer-team-game rates mean missed games count against a player, the way they would for a team. Shrinkage keeps a rookie who went 3-for-3 in garbage time from topping the efficiency chart. “Since [date]” compares today's board to the board built without the most recent game night.
Past-draft redrafts
NFL 2000–2025: every pick ranked by Pro-Football-Reference's weighted career Approximate Value (wAV), from the nflverse draft_picks dataset; ties broken by AV earned for the drafting team, then games. Pro Bowls, All-Pro selections, games and seasons as a starter are shown for context.
NBA 2000–2025: every pick ranked by value = 50% × WS ÷ (class-best WS) + 50% × VORP ÷ (class-best VORP) using career Win Shares and Value Over Replacement Player from Basketball-Reference; negative values count as zero, ties broken by WS. Picks who never played an NBA game score 0.
Recent classes (2022–2025) have played only a few seasons; their order will keep changing. Approximate Value and Win Shares both under-describe some roles (offensive linemen, specialists, defensive-minded bigs), so treat these as a strong starting point rather than a final verdict.
